Short history about the indoor bonsai
Some advice you should follow taken into consideration when converting a plant into an indoor bonsai:
Check that the plant is healthy and free from pests and diseases. These plants have to be converted in a systematic way.
Before buying the plant, visualize the style you wish to achieve and try to picture the plant when pruned and shaped. This will help you avoid the unnecessary removal of branches.
Apart from the style, bear in mind the shape and type of container
When considering a flowering houseplant, do not attempt to convert it while it is flowering, not only can it be difficult to see the plant’s shape, but its seasonal beauty will be lost
Buy a young plant, preferably in spring. A thick trunk, especially at the base, will later give the bonsai an aged look, while equally spaced branches are ideal for creating the formal upright style
Initially, cut away unnecessary branches. Later, cut back the main branches to the designed length, always cutting to just beyond a bud
After choosing the tree’s design and making the initial conversion, allow the plant to settle down. About three weeks later, remove it from its pot, trim the roots and report it into a prepared bonsai container
It will take several months for a plant to settle into its new environment and style before new growth appears. Do not water the plant excessively in this period
The shape and color of the container you buy are also influenced by the decor of the room
